Lecture Series

We are always looking for interesting topics on sonic research, artistic and musical projects, and anything related to the study of sound.  Please contact us if you would like to make a presentation about your research.  For information about the current series, as well as past events, see our lecture series page.

Seed Grants

Every year, SSI awards between 2-3 $5000 seed grants to affiliated researchers at the University of Alberta.  These are designed to explore possibilities for collaborative, interdisciplinary research in sound. The research expected includes proposal writing, workshops, and other activities that move towards major partnerships and Tri-Council or industry funding. Applications are reviewed in June of each year by the Sound Studies Research Committee, with the results normally announced by July 1.  Funds must be spent by March of the following year.

Become an Affiliated Researcher

If you are a University of Alberta faculty member working with sound, from any Faculty, and would like to become an affiliated researcher, please visit contact us.  Becoming an affiliated researcher enables you to apply for seed grants, as well as become part of a community network of researchers working on sound-related research.  In some cases we can also provide meeting space, administrative assistance with grants, access to our digitization lab, editing, recording, and other resources.
