Join us for a talk by Dr. Benjamin Piekut focusing on his work over the past year at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, on “the Emergence of the Sound Art Concept.”

Dr. Benjamin Piekut (Cornell) is author of Experimentalism Otherwise: The New York Avant-Garde and Its Limits (2011), Henry Cow: the World is a Problem (2019), and articles in, among others, The Drama Review, Cultural Critique, Twentieth Century Music, and Journal of the American Musicological Society. His research interests include music and performance after 1950, critical studies in race and gender, improvisation studies, sound art, and music technologies. “Deadness,” his article co-written with Jason Stanyek, won the 2011 Outstanding Article award from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, and was named one of MIT Press’s “50 Most Influential Articles” in all disciplines.
