SSI Audio engineering for university podcasts, fee tiers / levels (April 2023)
Large scale podcast projects have to be planned in advance. From our experience, every podcasting project is different and requires different levels of advice on planning, structuring and and production. Please contact us to discuss your specific project so we can provide a better estimate of hours and costs. In order to be able to commit to assisting with audio engineering or technical production, SSI must be part of the initial planning stages, so we can assess project requirements. SSI needs at least two months notice ahead of technical work on a podcasting project. SSI is happy to advise on technical considerations and with grant proposals for podcasting projects.
Below are two examples of support SSI has given to give a sense of the number of hours and costs associated with making a scholarly podcast. Hours per episode are given as a guideline, but are highly dependent on individual podcast project requirements, which is why we emphasize bringing us into the project early to assess and advise on technical requirements. *SSI is very supportive of podcasts and scholarly research and when possible, may be able to offer In kind support. If costs are prohibitive please contact SSI to discuss your project.

Happiness Reflected: A community poetry project
All content prepared by researchers, researchers provided recordings, structured the podcasts, supplied intro and outro text and music. SSI mixed, mastered, arranged and did minor editing. SSI also advised during the initial project development phase on production and recording practices, effective timelines, and project dissemination.

Technical production Example 2: Longer 45 minute podcast with support for planning and structuring episodes (10 hours).
SSI participates in content planning meetings and episode structuring. SSI supervises and participates in recording, and SSI provides mixing, mastering, arranging and in-depth dialogue editing. Intro and outro provided by researchers. SSI helped set up dissemination platforms. For this level of service, the amount of hours required per episode are highly dependent on the individual project requirements – e.g., how much dialogue editing is required is dependent on the length and quality of a voice recording, the individual speakers, and other factors.

SSI digitization services, fee tiers / levels (April 2023)
SSI can digitize audio archives including vinyl and cassettes. Our guide cost is $40 per hour of audio but please contact us for a more customized price depending on the size of your archive and the amount of cataloguing necessary.
